Coffee Cup Feature: The trick to making your own homemade Irish Coffee
Are you a fan of both alcohol and coffee? Well, thank you, Irish Coffee for giving us the best of both worlds.
The drink was invented by a local chef, Joe Sheridan during a wicked Irish storm back in the 1940s. American passengers aboard a Pan Am flying boat decided to let the storm pass by taking refuge at the restaurant in Newfoundland where Sheridan worked. Since Sheridan knew American’s drank a lot of coffee, he decided to give them coffee with an Irish twist by adding whiskey.
How do you concoct one?
Step 1: Prepare your choice of strong coffee
Step 2: Heat a glass by pouring boiling water in and swirling it around
Step 3: Add 1 teaspoon of brown sugar to the bottom of the glass. Brown sugar is recommended to help bring out the whisky flavor
Step 4: Fill the glass up halfway with your choice of strong coffee and stir to melt down the sugar
Step 5: Add Irish whiskey
Step 6: Add cream
The tricky bit is adding the last ingredient. The cream needs to be just the right amount of consistency between whipped and poured. Pro tip is to pour over the back of a warm spoon. Too thick, you’ll end up with a mouthful of cream. Too thin, it won’t sit on top.
